On a more serious note research even in top universities like Harvard is all about protectionism, is a dog eat dog world and is all about publications. The publications also depend on peer review, which is a whole lot of crock.

A lot of politics too are involved in this....if you are fresh off the boat, you would not know this but when you are in a research institution, you will learn the American ways!!

The lab culture that fosters this type of behavior is the type of lab culture that fosters other types of scientific misconduct. When you set up a win-lose type of competition, you foster this type of behavior. That is what Enron did. The culture Enron fostered destroyed Enron.

cafe,

what are you talking about?

lab culture? fostering that type of behavior?

are you out of mind or you know that you can bullshit here?

It happens, I agree but not not all the time!!!!!!please!!!

having worked in research in a few countries, many different labs...I still have to come a cross sabotaging some one else's work!

anybody with deviant behavior who is looking for self assurance, reasons and others to accuse of what they have been doing is nothing but does not deserve to be in the research!

I dont like Enron analogy-two different beasts!!

So to make it short, NO, It is not an acceptable behavior, it does not happen all the time..

I totally agree with Paho!! This misbehavior is disgusting and unacceptable!!! You cannot be proud in yourself with this method and definitely cannot reach Nobel prize with this trick. Slowing down others doesn't mean speed up yourself. Where's the goal??? Nooooo!!! there's no goal in science. People don't know much more than knowing. There're lot of things in the world merit investigation. Why don't they lode their time in this absurd thing?? I think that Vipul was deserved in what he did. Mafia, bullying and sabotaging like this should be stopped in science. Don't they realize that it'll be translated into medical field??? This is Karma...he got what he has done...
