prematch!!!!! - usmleshrek
#1
Ok guys... Many people here want you to take that prematch.... and just analyse.. who are offered prematches... people with 99/99s and who are very good in presentation and personality.... How many times you go to interview at mediocre places and see.. very timid IMGs who have matched.. mostly from a particular state in the south of India.. or they are these weirdos.. from north... I have seen very articulate and good residents in prematch offering programs Because they were trapped into this...

If you were offred a prematch and You have other good offers... Guys Go for the match!!!!!!!!! Dont leave the field open for these idiots... to get into good University programs... I have seen shit heads in good fellowship programs just beacuse they were lucky to get into match as the good candidates from good places all got trapped in prematch places...

Long Island College : No fellowships.. lousy locale and overall lots lots of swork.... But good residents!!!
Lutheran : You cannot touch their private patients, very less teaching, and good residents again!!!
Brooklyn Hospital: very very smart residents... most prematched due to anxiety.... But end of it all ... as they offer very few inhouse fellowships!

Now look at U conn : goes into match : has many weirdos
Virginia Commonwealth : Medicine : mostly Southie residents in IMGs... many cannot even talk properly.... Good program No sw and these asses get all the pleasure because good guys left with a prematch!!!!!This has been happening all the time... people say last year 99/99s went unmatched... But do we even ask what kind of 99/99s go unmatched... If you are self confident.. do good at interviews .. GO FOR THE MATCH... pds rank people with confidence high!!!! so do NOT fall for this conspiracy of people of a particular state in south of India!!!!

people opt for prematch not just because of fellowships dude.there are other things like family and similar criteria involved.

from the immature talk you just gave, it seems like you are just looking at only one thing. fellowships.

people have matched to john hopkins for cardio from community colleges. everything is possible with hardwork and dedication.

.. dont apply to community progs, then they cant trap you!!!! Thats what I did and now I realize my mistake!!! I have only 4 IVs 2 med n 2 peds... I have 99/99/cs all 1st.. research and observership....

there is no need for such things here... every1 kno's wats up with d season! no need to get too excited ! ppl who are in, deserve it ! and who are out also deserved it bt didnt have gd fortune ! keep working guys and help each other by sharing information. there is no point in discussing here who knows hw 2 speak and who dosent, who are double 99ers and who are nt. if u know hw to speak and some1 dosent then try to help them instead of pointing out flaws just for the sake of fun. no need to go to the state, country, race, religion, language, etc etc .. there can be no generalized statement concerning anything coz everywhere u will find different ratio of good and bad ppl !

Not everyone takes pre-match out of desperation. I had an informal pre-match offer from my 1st interview where I was asked to contact the program in a after i've had a few more interviews. It was my 1st IV and theirs as well. As luck would have it, I ended up getting a prematch from one of my top 3 programs in a the meanwhile with 6 interviews left to attend. Now, my scores are nowhere near 99/99 but the programs saw something they liked and made the offer. As for me, I took the prematch because i knew for a fact that this community program would put me through the ringer and I would come out the other side as a good clinician. Fellowship aside, my first priority was to find a program that would expose me to so many cases that at the end of my 3 years, I would be prepared enough to handle anything that came my way. Look, this is the last three years where someone's going to be willing to teach you. For me, I look at it as my last shot to learn and any program that says "we'll teach you and we'll teach you well" is where i want to be regardless of whether they have in house fellowships. I'd rather be a poor PC who saves lives than a highly paid specialist who can't do justice to the person lying on the table/bed in from of them. Now, while that may not be everyone's point of view, it was mines and that's the reason I took my prematch. I got hell from my peers for not waiting and "giving up good interviews" but i'm satisfied and pray I do justice to my profession.

very eloquently put drny. Everyone makes a such a fuss about in-house fellowship this and that but ultimately, the primary objective of residency is to grow as a clinician and to be exposed to as many cases as possible.
