ApoE gene, E4 allele in Alzheimer's Disease??? - usmleiosis
#1
Goljan said that this gene is rlated to EARLY onset AD, but this doesnt match what FA is saying on page 422 (2010ed)= says that it is related to LATE onset AD.
So i looked at some articles online, and some have found it to be related to EARLY onset and some have found in to be related to LATE onset. Which is more correct though? should we be following FA then (since more recent than goljan)??

Alzheimer Disease Genetics is related to four genes

1. chromosome 21-- amyloid precursor protein --early onset FAD -- + increased Abeta production

2. chromosome 14 -- Presenilin 1 (PS1) - early onset FAD + increased Abeta

3.chromosome 1 -- Presenilin 2 ( PS2) -same as above

4. chromosome 19 - Apo E allele e4 -- increased risk of devlpg of AD +decreased age at onset at AD

all above except fourth one has missense mutations

so it's early onset as Goljan says , according to what you wrote above in point 4 (decreased age of onset)

yaa earl AD ...but not only ApoE ..there are 3 other genes accompanyn Alzh

ApoE4 is the only one involved in both, Familial early onset (along with other 3) and late onset AD (no other genes involved here).

yes what yo said is what I have noticed from different sources. E4 is the only one involved in both early and late onset AD.
