Psych generally have cutoff between 80 to 85. So if you have Psych-related experience, they will INVITE you.
Do not forget Step 3, but than again many interviewers this year, including me, got the calls before I had passed Step 3.

does shadowing in india in psychiatry helps??

Better in USA or Canada or Europe in that order. An MD in Psych from INDIA is Great but I doubt any one will buy shadowing in India but something is better than nothing.

Two programs in DC offer externship, St Elizabeth Hospital and Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Washington DC. There are other places, check the forum or request others for information.

you can do externship, observership, rotations, research in psych to show your interest in psych...if youa re doing externship in IM and applying to psych it will not cut it.

cut off is for sure not 80 or 85, I am PGY1 at a Univ program in NYC, half of us are American grads have IMGs. The IMGs have HUGE scores, just someone has under 95 95, most are 99 99 more than 3/4 with step 3.
genuine interest is proof on the CV that you invested time in Psychiatry- research internship, courses etc
