does the percentile vary by taking the step in a certain city? as in.. in India i heard if we take the exam in
mumbai we get high percentiles!

it varies based on what type of brains are taking the test that same day.....coz your scores will be compared amongst each other to generate a percentile.....

2 digit scores are not percentiles!!!
on the other side, the 2 digit score has varied over time in relation to its correlation with the 3 digit score, when i took step 1 more than 235 was necessary to get a 99, nowadays it is more than 230 i believe. I think that who is taking the exam the same day as you are will not influence either!
The exam is the same if you take it in India or Puerto Rico or NYC, it is computerized and your score will be the same regardless of the city.
