cellulitis - rnadal1
#1
if a patient came in with abrasion w/ obvious cellulitis but w/o wound discharges, can we still do a wound culture? i tried it in UW case and it gave me a wound culture result even w/o discharges.. in their management however, they did not mention wound culture, just blood culture. I know that we can treat pt with clindamycin in-patient and outpatient bases but my point of doing the blood culture is to change to a cheaper/specific ABx like oxacillin if mssa.. what do you think guys? thnx for your input...

Hi,

I forgot I read may be in Kaplan q book that there is a test for cellulitis (taking the leading edge of the cellulitis) I forgot the name even, when there is no discharge. that enables u to culture the organism. As for blood culture it seems to be logical too.
