please clarify..if s/s of sorethroat present but strep throat is -, what would be next step. do culture or think of other dx.


cause in pediatric book it says that if strp throat - do culture, fischer book says strep throat negative equivalent to culture.please clarify

if rapid antigen test is negative we do throat culture to rule out strept infection.ag detection test is like screening test n can be done in office but if its neg go for culture.i am sure about it.its also nbme qs.

rapis strep test if positive no need of further evidence to confirm strep throat
but if negative u go for culture...

But in children it has to be confirmed by Culture bcoz of worrisome sequala

so in children -negative strep throat go for culture
in adult negative strep throat no culture its a negative test and think other dx..is that what you saying gusmle..? like think of mono cause negative strep means negative culture in adult is that what you are saying.

cause im thinking in adult there is also sequela like POST STREP and Infective endo.

Yes i mean if the result is -ve in children it has to be followed by culture , but if it is +ve it does not need any more invest.
