Read the question carefully. It is not alanine that is replaced by serine, but rather serine has been replaced by alanine. Serine having a hydroxyl group (like threonine and tyrosine) is one of the commonly phosphorylated residues (remember serine/threonine kinases and tyrosine kinase?) or O-glycosylated residues.

#40. C.

- "fracture of the neck of the fibular of her right leg"...this tells you it is a common peroneal near.
- we can crossed out choice A and B. now, we're left with choice C, D, or E
- we know that there is only pain over the proximal fibular and absence of pain over distal fibula...hence, we can crossed out choice E.
- we're left with choice C or D.
- the normal action of common peroneal nerve is to dorseflex.
- hence, if we have a problem with common peroneal nerve..we would have foot drop...and the dorsiflexion will be diminished... only 1/5...so C is our answer. But, let's continue for the heck of it.
- plantar flexion should be normal...so 4/5
