here is the case
generally USCIS approves your pettition for 3 years (when your contract ends), but at the embassy they stamp your passport for just 1 year.

@sacrifice,
I got my h1b approved for 1 year only, it was filed for 3 years. I guess we need to file it every year but u don't have to get it stamped every year unless u go to India for some purpose. This is wht i know. I appreciate any inputs.

And tanya, would you happen to know what would the cost be to file for renewal? Is it just like filing for a new petition? Thx.
