FEV1 and copd... - thaaj

There is some relation given in mtb3 abt fev1 and copd. FEV1 < 1.5 L means severe copd according to it. I didn't understand this ,searched in google but didn't find it. Everywhere it's given FEV1 80-120% is normal , not mentioned in terms of litres. Can anyone make this concept clear to me?

The concept of COPD classification is based on so-called GOLD criteria. In stage 0 of GOLD criteria the patient has normal PFT together with sputum or cough.
In stages I-IV FEV1/FVC ratio =80% predicted
II. 50%

II. between 80 and 50, III.between 30 and 50%, IV.
