A 28-year-old woman, who is in the 12th week of her pregnancy, presents to the emergency room with vaginal bleeding. P/E showed that her uterus is large for gestational age. V/E reveals a grape-like mass protruding form the cervical os. Microscopic examination of the mass revealed large, edematous cells with a large central cavity, surrounded by a proliferation of cytotrophoblasts and syncytiotrophoblast.
Chromosomal analysis of the tissue would most likely show which of the following karyotypes?
A. 45XO
B. 46XX
C. 47XXY
D. 55XY
E. 69XXY

a partial mole occurs when an egg is fertilized by two sperm or by one sperm which reduplicates itself yielding the genotypes of 69,XXY (triploid) or 92,XXXY (quadraploid).

As katy said, in partial mole, the haploid egg is fertilized by either one diploid or two haploid sperm resulting in triploid karyotype, i.e. 69XXY.
@saad_usmle, answer E is partial mole.
