Hi everyone,
I just finished my step 2 ck . Now i want to start studying for step 3. I have few questions. Can anyone please answer these.

1. What should i study for step 3? ( I already finished reading step 3 MTB)
2. Which series of question set should i practice ( Uworld or kaplan)?
3. Which simulation test i should give before main exam?
4. How much should be the preparation time?

Thanks in Advance.

what was your ck score?
if your ck < 80, start with kap step 2ck and then do Archer video review for mcq. After these do, UW qbank and 2 weeks before exam do the NBME. For CCS, do dr.red ccs workshop and then print out UW CCS Cases and practice them on primum software like we discussed before. First download primum from usmle official website and then get oriented to it.
If your ck score > 80, skip kap step 2ck notes, it means you do have enough basics and can go to step 3 directly. Directly start with archer and do uw qs. While doing archer, I recommend that you do archer lecture in one topic first followed by uw mcq and if you ahve time, kap qbook as well. In this way, you can understand the important exam concepts better . MTB is a minor part of exam prep, reserve MTB reading for last minute not in beginning.

regarding time for preparing, 2 to 3 months enough if your CK score > 80.
4 to 5 months, if ck score less than 80

CCS practice is crucial so them 1 hour daily at least.

good luck

dont do video of archer .they are not good...instead do PR.. archer is explaning in details in first and then topic by topic making very short. finaly comes 1 or 2 line and one topic finish..

Well PR is very lengthy.
Archer: Its to the point, good summary of UW. good for those who have current basic knowledge (recent CK)
disadvantage: if done before UW mcqs, ur scores will be high, as he gives away answers to UW questions. So UW learning objective is not met.

PR: very lengthy, good for those who took their CK long time ago, are having less basic knowledge. Sometimes low yield topics disscussed and sometimes highyeild left.

WELL SUMMARIZED BY USMLETALK.
YUP, IF UR CK IS NOT RECENT YOU HAVE TO DO KAPLAN NOTES.
UW IS GOOD LEARNING TOOL.
YOU CAN ALSO ADD MKSAP, JASON KAPLAN FOR TOPICS WHERE U ARE WEAK

it is funny when you see comments that followed my post,,,well, that is the fun part of this forum that is filled with agents from many courses. Does not it sound funny when some body says a review is a summary of a highyield course ...all courses will have highyield points, you must know these commonly asked concepts in a detailed way to answer any question on the exam.

If you can answer kaplan or UW very well, you are not skewed...you just know the subject that needs to be known. However, if you see some of these people giving inexperienced opinions skewing and distorting the ideas and the picture; makes it difficult for the genuine people looking for good opinions.

here is a common sense thinking for you:

Step 3 exam has very limited concepts in it which are highyield in each topic...kaplan qbank has some of those concepts, UW has those concepts, premier has those concepts, Archer has a lot of them as well...so the concepts are common in every course....the point is who is the best at explaining these...if you ask me, with out a doubt Archer is the best course that gives detailed explanations of these. Even if you look at archer sample questions in their blog question bank in each topic they go way beyond UW in covering concepts , they are filled with concept and are not fragmented like uw.

If you do Archer, you will understand the concept and therefore, you can answer whatever question bank - UW or kaplan or usmle consult...it does not matter which one. So, knowing the concept is that matters Smile

best wishes.

Lols, one must be a super agent if UW, Kaplan, ACP (MKSAP) hired him at the same time and he is serving them goood. On the other side what about that duffer agent who always promote some under rated course, and comes with different ids just to promote his own course??
