what is observership considered as ?work or volunteer? last year i mentioned it as work but when i went thru the sample caf form in residency- match it is mentioned that it shud be stated as volunteer ! now i'm really confused

i placed it under work and it worked for me
Work University Of xyzabc Clinical Observer 08/2007 Description Clinical observership was with Dr. timtom, Associate Director, Internal Medicine residency program at the University hospital and clinics (University of xyzabc). I attended the Department of Medicine clinics. i was also involved with patient care, diagnosis and management discussions with fellows and residents.

It's volunteer. It is always a volunteer if you didn't receive salary.
