From what I've gathered so far: Not requiring a visa is definitely a huge plus for most programs. Yet, programs where even (citizenship/GC holding) IMGs don't like to go will obviously not mind sponsoring a candidate's visa.
That being said, if they like you and really want you in their program they will sponsor your visa. So I guess for mid and lower-tier programs, requiring a visa shouldn't be a limiting factor if you have what they're looking for. At least I hope not

Thanks for the input. i've heard about the same. some say it's an advantage if 2 candidates have the same credentials, but one is a gc holder and the other is not.
