Is it strep pneumo or n. meningitidis? or there is no consensus?

its n.meningitidis till 16 yr of age after 16 its s.pnemonia..goljan

according to uworld it is strep pneumo.....so tht is my confusion

kb123 u got it the otherway around... until age of 16-18 its strept pnumo AND after 18 yrs its n. meningitis ..... saintdizzy just check for the patients age in the question stem.

according to 2010 FA, pg 178, Strep Pneumo till age 6, then its N. menin. I trust this information. But there has been a recent change, ck CDC.

there is a table in the U W. THAT does not match with the FA ( 09 -10- 2011 )
So which book we have to follow ?

Newborn : Group B Streptococci

Infants and children : Neisseria meningitidis

Adult : S. pneumoniae

1) Newborn - E Coli
- Group B Strep
- Listeria
2) 6 month- 6 years - Pneumo

3) After 6 years, young adult in group( army etc....), Epidemy - N. Meninngititis

4) After 60 years - Pneumo
