biofilm on the teeth is produced by strept.mutans.which is a normal flora of the oral cavity.
can it cause endocarditis in tooth extraction?i am not sure

i am not sure myself.i just read that the sub acute endocarditis produced by strept viridans /mutans is by bio film and one produced by strept enterococci is not by bio film.in the former,it goes from teeth to heart via blood stream while in later it goes thru blood stream too but the source is GIT.

Viridans group strep. are normal flora of the oropharynx. Strep. mutans causes dental caries, Strep. sanguis causes subacute bacterial endocarditis.
