a 54 year old woman comes to the physician because of a 5 day history of severe mid back pain. Physical examination shows point tenderness over the T6 vertebra. drum studies show calcium concentration of 13.4mg/dl urinalysis shows bench jones proteins. Which of the following is the most likely cause of this pt's hypercalcemia.
a/ excessive PTH production
b/ excessive PTH-related protein production
c/ increased fractional calcium gastrointestinal absorption
d/ local IL-1 and tumor necrosis factor effects
e/ unregulated 1,25 dihydroxycholecalciferol production (WRONG)
I think its multiple myeloma alms 100% sure but none of the answers fit. Can someone explain. THANKS!!!!!
