I took step 3 and it does help but not by that much. You have to get lucky and find the PD that doesnt care abut the exam

Yes, passing Step 3 could help, because this means you wouldn't need to take time off to take it and for review. A lot of people would say that PDs will look at Step 3 scores more like a Pass/Fail thing, but getting a higher score shows you are capable of taking exams well, so it definitely wouldn't hurt.

Just make sure you don't fail it.
