How much does volunteer work matter? I am doing my research as a volunteer research assistant, so can I write 10 months research as well as 10 months volunteer work?

Experts pls reply



Step 1 -222, step 2 -233, CS 2nd attempt, 10 months research, 2 US LORS, USCE: 1 day/ week for 6 months with physical exam of patients

I will specify research under work, and not a volunteer experience. You might mention that it was unpaid work. Second, volunteering is really good experience, but only to show your commitment to the community (very valuable for FM).

am doing shadowing now and i also got a job as a medical assistant. I want to apply for family medicine . does the medical assistant job counts and shouldl i get a letter of recommendation only from the doctor am shadowing? or /and from my work place too as a medical assistant. pls reply

I didn't think volunteer work matters much, I just always loved do it. But then I worked for
http://www.relief.org/volunteer/, and through it I was able to meet many people in the profession I was interested in and I was able to use those connections and the experience to land my dream job. So I would definitely list it as work, but I would also highlight it as volunteer work. It will show your dedication - especially 10 months! Good luck
