can anybody outline the treatment options for varicose veins...like best treatment, or initial treatment..and whether it depends on if they are symptomatic or asymptomatic?

Pts who have isolated pitting edema then the initial treatment is leg elevation, exercise (as its more common in obese pts), and compression stockings...
And if the pt doesn't respond to this initial treatment then a venous duplex scan needs to be done to find out more. Pts who have persistent symptoms or a documented venous reflux should get ablation done... But I would also imagine debridement of the area where there is skin ulceration.

thanks alot. Ya initial is conservative management. and you do sclertherapy/ablation ONLY AFTER 3-6 MONTHS of failure of conservative therapy. Large ones are ofcourse treated surgically with venous stripping
