an 82 yr old women,brought by her granddaughter becuase of 6 week history of inc. forgetfulness.she is a retired school teacher and lives indepently.she left stove on for sveral occasions.during her conversation with her granddaughter she has difficulty remembering past events and seems unconcerned about her memory lapses.she has trouble sleeping through night and has had dec appetite resulting in weight loss.she had similar symptoms 2 and 5 yrs ago htt were succefully treated with medication.she appears unkept and poor persomal hygiene.Mental state examination shows psychomotor retardation,flat effect ,impaired ability to recall past events and troublr repeating 3 numbers in sequence. her serum urea nirogen is=25 and creatinie is 1.7
most likely diagnosis is:-
alzeihmers demetia
parkinsonism
head taruma
geberal pareisis
acute stress disorder
multiinfarct vascular demetia
normal pressure hyrocephalus
picks disease
normal ageing
niacin deficiency
major depressive disorder

major depressive disorder: similar symptoms successfully treated with meds in the past. I posted a similar q here not long ago and it was answered.

should not be so acute(6 weeks in history)
can not be cured as it is degenrative pt has history of similar problems 2 and 5 years old successfully treated
