Hi folks! This is a question to all those who have interviewed at residency programs.

I am a Psychiatrist from India, and I am finishing my MD next month.

I'm a little confused between 2 situations:

1.To enter private practice directly (My family owns a hospital) and take the USMLE and apply for Psychiatry residency next year

2. Take up a job in an academic institute and do the USMLE

My question is, how do either of these situations affect my CV for Psychiatry residency application? I have to decide quickly!

Focus on Scores and US clinical experience ..... everything else is of secondary importance (but to fill the gap in CV academic institute job looks better esp if you can get a meaningful publication).

Getting good score should be your primary objective.
