changing non immigrant status from F-1 to J-1 - vj09

Anybody knows how long will it take to change nonimmigrant status from F-1 to J-1 using Form I-539 through The USCIS Electronic Immigration System (USCIS ELIS) ?

has anybody done it before ? If so please share your experience or recommendations...

Web site says 2.5 months, in reality it usually takes 4-6 months. Depending on work load. If u have a clear cut case where u have good possibilities to get visa, it might be better to get visa from outside
