couple of things: could be one or more of the below;

1) Iranian applicants might not be able to take all exams

2) current residents might not be able to take step 3

3) Iranians applicants might not be able to get ECFMG certificate

4) Iranian applicants might not be able to get J-1 visa.

so I just called ECFMG for my friend who told me about this issue today.

the person said they are investigating this and can not go in more details.

I think it will be ok in the end

I agree with you boardreview

and ebolanow I think you ignored the 6th possibility:

6- It is just a temporary bureaucratic process and everything will be fine!

The info is clear. If you are already certified your fine. If you are not they will not being issuing any new ECFMG certificates everything is on hold. If you have registered for an exam before this news came out this week then you can still take your exam however you will not be issued the final step which is the ECFMG Certificate till this hold is removed. I'm not sure where you heard info about visas not being issued this was not discussed

Well you can't control it. This is America.

For people who do apply go to proven schools who have residents in place.
