The Medical Center would like to invite qualified individuals to apply for a 1 or 2 year volunteer research fellowship position in the Department of Surgery. Medical Center is located in Annapolis, Maryland and is one of the fastest growing hospitals in the state. In addition, the hospital has adopted the mission to significantly expand its academic activities. The research fellow will work closely with surgeons to organize and direct all research efforts of the sections of Minimally Invasive Surgery / Gastrointestinal & Bariatric Surgery within the Department of Surgery. Research efforts are focused on conduction of single or multi-center clinical trials, retrospective and prospective database studies, video and abstract preparation for meeting submission, database design and creation, and application for private and federal grants. Ample opportunities exist to collaborate with residents and faculty from other academic institutions. This position offers a unique supportive environment with ample resources including a clinical research nurse, statistical analysis support, and college interns interested in medical careers who will assist research efforts at the direction of the research fellow.
How To Apply

did I say otherwise? It clearly states that it is volunteer position. that it is unpaid.Any smarter questions or comments?
Some people especially non-US graduates need US experience, need research on their CV and being exposed to clinical setting her in US. It is a great opportunity for people who are serious about it.
Physicians you will be working with are world-renown, to say it at least. Recommendation letters from those kinds of people will set you apart from many applicants.

of course it is better than observership. At least you walk away with experience, with wonderful letters of recommendation. with bunch of abstracts with your name on it
