Have a dilemma, please help to solve - rn2009
#1
Good evening. Just found out that I am pregnant, due date in the end of September. Had just 2 interviews(not in great places), now I am in dilemma - should I withdraw from Match this year and apply next year, or continue with Match and explain later to program director my situation, in case if I match. I am a citizen, work in hospital, old grad, passed all exams from first attempt. Thank you.

An extra won't help your application.

Go with the match

You should just continue with the match. If you match it's illegal for them to fire you because you are pregnant. If you don't math then anyway you are reapplying next year

Please go ahead with the match. I took a wrong decision since I was expecting and due date was in May many years ago. I thought how could I do residency starting July. I could not match after that. I am still trying and had to repeat my passed steps again to make it current. Once you match its like a job you are eligible for maternity vacation. Even recently one of my friends got matched and found out she was expecting and she delivered baby 3 months into PGY1. I am suffering and so I am certain dont disclose anything about pregnancy to the programs. Its privacy anyways. My sincere advise.

You could terminate the pregnancy.

You are non-human! It is a shame that you want to be a physician. And it would be patients' unfortune to have you as their doctor.

@bensha ,
My question to you. How did you retake the passed exam?

Hi dear, I have the same dilemma! my case might be even worse because I am due by end of July! I am not sure how I`ll be able to manage the challenging internship year along with a newborn and 2 other young kids if i ever match of course! I thought of withdrawing from the match as well but let`s see how it goes. Everything happens for a reason but I know how it feels.

@jjrodz

U are the ultimate troll on this forum. U are telling her to terminate her pregnancy?!
before anyone listens to the wisdom of jjrodz, lets take a look at his background. first quote:

"jjrodz - 09/18/15 14:22

YOG 2008 Step 1 low 210s on third attempt, CK low 230s first attempt, CS pass on third attempt, awaiting Step 3 grade. Applied to 5 IM programs."

so here we have a dude that graduated 8 years ago with 4 failures. and from another of his posts- he says that he pre-matched this year. please tell us where did u pre-match jjrodz, so we can avoid being admitted there on ur shift. U just told a woman to terminate her pregnancy. u have no regard for life. the vegas sportsbooks set the over/under of how many patients jjrodz will accidentally kill during his intern year at 3. jjrodz coming to an ER near you in july 2016

Hi rlp,

I did not complete my steps within the 7 year period from the passing of the first exam in the series, as USMLE requires. You need to get permission from a State medical board to make you eligible to retake it. In my case the Texas Medical board. Its been a hard path though.
