What are these internship programs?
They are one year approved post graduate medical internship training for medical school graduates that upon completion, leads to eligibility for full unrestricted license to practice medicine in PR and subsequently in several other states in the US. The program consists of a minimum of 11 months clinical rotations in core areas including Surgery, Ob/Gyn, Emergency medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and at least one elective rotation. The program outline is similar to transitional year residency program.
The programs are offered only in certain approved hospitals in Puerto Rico.
