Regarding Change of Status - ananya

I am presently on F1 visa in US. I am unable to go to home country to get my J1 visa. What would be a good way to start residency. Do I need to get change of status??

Since u are already in the US on a F1, you can apply for a change of status stating that u are unable to goto your home country right now for the new visa stamp. but the F1 visa should be valid until the start of your residency. You will have to fill in the change of status forms and also mail them your I94 and a new I94 will be issued.
Contact a lawyer and things will work out better.

Thanks for the response. Have you any clue how much time it takes for the change of status. Do I have to wait till the processing of change of status before starting residency.
