I am trying to find out if it is a pre-screening quest for selected cohort or just a generic message that goes out once you apply to the program?

No, I didn't... just checked their specs, they said IMG requires step3.....

I got it and I'm IMG,
I think it is just an automated massege.

I think that message is automated message, I applied there too and got the message this past Friday.
I am also IMG (have step 3)
