Need a geneticist... - peshka
#1
Humans have 46 chromosomes, 22 pairs plus, XX/XY. Each chromosome is made up of 2 sister chromotids, each chromotid has 1 gene, so we have 4 copies of each gene(2 genes on each chromosomes * 2 chromosomes)? 4 Alleles?

Little confused...

Peshka,
from my understanding, little input. Dont mistake me if I am wrong. Each human cell has 23 pairs 1 from mom, 1 from dad. The chromatids I believe differ according to the phase of cell cycle and in interphase has 96 chromatids and so on. if each say chr 6 for example has 2 sis chromatids, then the pair has 4 chromatids. There is the same allele in each chromatid so one cell has 4 alleles. Its not a gene as one chromosome has varying number of genes.

Shomu's biology on you tube and there are many tutors that explain complicated genetic concepts very precisely and clearly. Check them out.

Hope this helps.
