Peanut allergy - itsthatdo
#1
6 year, peanut allergy in school, unconscious, failed resus with cpr and epinephrine at school; taken to ER and immediate relief achieved after IV epi, antihistamine and steroids. Most appropriate disposition:
(1) admission to hospital for 24 hours
(2) consult immunologist in ER
(3) discharge with script for antihistamine and steroids
(4) discharge with instructions to followup with pediatrician within 24 hours
(5) observe for at least 2 hours in ER

The correct answer is A, Someone who experienced anaphylaxis should be observed for at least 24 hr in the hospital. No need to consult anyone. Outpatient follow up with allergist is appropriate to educate patients on anaphylaxis and need for further allergy testing. Should have Epipen in pocket for future.
