a question about visa? - allopurinol
#1
Hi everyone,

Here I have a question about visa for residency. I am now holding a j1 (research scholar) visa, and some of the programs I interviewed are willing to offer H1B for my residency.

I am asking is it possible for me to apply for H1B with consideration of the 2-year rule of my current j1 (research scholar)?? Is there anyone who has encountered or know similar situations, and how can we deal with it??

Thanks so much in advance!!

Hai,

You have to get a J1 waiver from home country before you change to H1b.

Thanks for your reply!

The J1 waiver may take a while and may not be enough time for me to start residency on time next July. Then it seems the only other option for me is to transfer J1 through ECFMG. Don't know how hard it is to waive J1 after my residency (applying for pathology)....

Anyway, thanks for your input!!

You need to have the J1 waiver before the main residency match. Normally it takes weeks to process and in some times it takes months to get processed.

If you dont want to go for 2 year home country, you need to apply for J1waiver process. But the process to getting it done will be taken some time from few weeks to months.
