How important are electives in the final match? - perniciousp
#1
I have managed to get clinical electives only at Florida International University, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. By all accounts it is not a great place and neither are their LORs any special. So I was windering if I can make up for it with a good score. I've heard that some people manage to match even with only an observership? Is this true? Can I make up for my lack of good USCE through good scores or should I just reconsider my entire MLE plan?

It is tough to match with observerships they are not hands-on rotations and the LORs will not be having much value. Try to get externship rotations they are very helpful for the application and make the application strong for the residency match.

Instead of Observerships try to get hands-on clinical experience which is more useful for the application. You will be gaining strong LORs.

Yeah I have been selected for a clinical rotation and not observership. So I'm guessing that my chances should be fair with a good score in the steps.
