Is there any disadvantages for old usmle scores? - wjalrl
#1
Hi I’m img.grad 2017.
I have took step1 in september ,2018 (score 260)
and I am planning to finish step2ck/cs this year.
Because I have applied for the green card last year, I may have to postpone application for the match to 2022 while waiting for the greencard . Is it huge gap?I wonder if the gap btw the year I took usmle and the year I will actually apply for the match matters much to the outcome.

Gap between Step 1 and the year applying for match will not affect, but YOG matters when applying to match. Try to get multiple hands-on rotations it can strengthen the CV and show PDs that you are clinically active.

If you have 5 years gap from your graduation then you will be considered as old graduate, it will be a red flag for the application but getting hands-on rotations will help in cover up the gap. But have gap in the preparation for steps it will not affect

I have hand-on clinical experience as a Spiritual care provider/Chaplain
It is almost like a psychiatrist but without any prescription of medications
Does this help?

@par469 if that experience is related to the specialty you will be applying then it will be useful, if not it wont be useful.
