@usmlestep56, @canada1 !
what I get is may be if someone intends to switch from FM to IM after completing PGY1, it may be possible in the same program but he/she will need to start over from PGY1.. Am I correct..?

I realize the question was directed at usmlestep56, however, to clarify for you - FM and IM are two separate programs (even at the same facility), with two different PDs. If you have successfully completed a PGY1 in FM, you would need to drop from that program, and apply through ERAS for IM just like any other applicant.

If there is an IM program which is willing to give up one of its spots and prematch you as an incoming PGY1 after leaving a FM program, good luck finding it.

As they say, anything is possible - however, you are taking a huge risk with your current program.
