Dr Norwalk,
For this exam, and on the rounds, or clinic in the future, whenever there is depression, the first thought should be hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism leads to chemical imbalance (in general) which may subsequently affect serotonin, and endorphin in the system hence depression.
If your body isn™t producing enough thyroid hormone it can make your life miserable. You are tired, irritable, moody, depressed, you can™t concentrate and you feel as if you are losing your grip on your sanity and your life.
Below are secondary effects of hypothyroidism;
Diminished libido
Headache
Hoarseness
Slow thinking
Forgetfulness (66%)
Slow speech (91%
These symptoms wil cause a sort of depression regardless of the hormonal imbalance.
Now consider the general symptoms of anemia, and may be you can see the corrolation.
Symptoms;
Many patients are asymptomatic
Non-specific Symptoms include
Fatigue
Generalized weakness
Dyspnea on exertion
Light headed
Pruritus (Iron Deficiency Anemia)
