Q Thiamine deficiency - gusmle

Q1- in order to assess Thiamine deficiency in an alcoholic patient , erythrocyte enzyme activity was assessed, what enzyme utilizes Thiamine as a cofactor?


Q-2 does any body know why some patients with thiamine deficiency presented by ( WET ) while the others have ( Dry ) beri beri ?????

Q2. I dont understand ur second q, I just know there is cardiac issues (wet), and peripheral neuropathy (dry)

Q 2 , if u have Thiamine deficiency, will u develop wet or dry type??

you can develop either one or both

Wet is due to lack of vit b1 in myocytes that is required for TCA cycle for energy generation..

no B1.. no energy generation and patient present with CHF thats wet beri beri..

and again in neurons vit B1 necessary for myelination.. no B1. no proper myelination.. and patient present with neuropathy.. dry beri..
